SEAL IQ - New Interconnection Technology for Mobile Supply Chains

The Maple IQ system in action
Now you can give trailers and rigids an IQ; enough intelligence to enable transport managers to reduce costs and shrinkage in the mobile supply chain. You can tell the vehicle who the authorised driver is, how many times the load area can be sealed and unsealed - and where it can be unsealed if necessary.

A green light tells you that instructions have been followed to the letter; a red means an unauthorised opening has been attempted.

Drivers know they are accountable as every event is recorded electronically in real time, and is available for uploading to the main computer - for accessing on a need to know basis.

The significant potential for reducing costs and shrinkage over the long term contrasts with the low financial outlay involved.

Mechanical seal   Traffic lights   Traffic lights - simplicity and global understanding.

The inspiration for the patented traffic lights readout developed for SEAL IQ - the foundation component of the MAPLE IQ system.

Checking load integrity in poor light and adverse weather conditions presents no problems with SEAL IQ.

In fact, the worse the weather conditions, the more the SEAL IQ blinking light is appreciated!

Mechanical seals - simple, but too easily broken - and no record to say who.
Transposition errors are commonplace.

Asset Tracking (Integral Facility)
Logs the ULCs in a vehicle and monitors where they go!
Your assets leaving
Your assets returning?
Hand held reader   The Maple IQ Asset Tracking facility enables operators to use the read/write capability of RFID to log and monitor moving assets via a hand held terminal.

This obviates the need to climb inside vehicles to check contents. A handheld terminal can write to, or read from, the SEAL IQ unit.

Your assets leaving
Your assets returning?
When the IQ system is in operation, drivers and general warehouse staff know that they can be held fully accountable and put a new value on your moving assets.
RFID logo ULCs are continually monitored and location recorded to further reinforce driver accountability.
The Trailer has an IQ! (Integral Facility)
Vehicles leave the Distribution Centre knowing how many stops they can make!
Gatehouse   Distribution diagram

The trailer clears the Gatehouse outward bound knowing precisely how many stops it is allowed to make. In this case the seal can only be unsealed and resealed twice after leaving the distribution centre.

Any more attempts to unseal would result in a red light on return to base, signalling an enquiry.

No need for pens, paper or transponder cards - simplicity with efficiency.
  Automated Gatehouse (Integral Facility)
Eliminates queuing, saving fuel and optimising drivers' working time!
Existing gatehouse procedures
  • The time taken for a vehicle to clear gatehouse procedures can be as much as 6 minutes.
  • Which means 10 vehicles could take up to one hour.
  • Queuing costs fuel and reduces drivers' effective working time.

Returning to the Distribution Centre
With Existing Procedures
Returning to Distribution Centres becomes a more efficient process.

Automated gatehouse procedures
  • When Maple IQ automated gatehouse procedures are activated, the average time taken for a vehicle to clear the gatehouse is an athletic 15 seconds!
  • With the Working Time Directive for drivers coming into force in March 2005, this is a serious aid to productivity.

A further possibility is active signing that tells the driver his destination bay number.
A significant contribution towards the more efficient use of drivers' working time.
Audit Trails (Integral Facility)
If you have a red light! Information download on a need to know basis.

Audit Reports
Audit Trails

If a vehicle returns with a red light on the seal readout, an audit trail recording when, where and by whom a load area was sealed and unsealed is downloadable.

The Audit Trail report is transferred to the main computer for filing and/or inspection.

The audit trail read-out can print 'traffic lights' graphics to highlight sealing and unsealing entries.

Seal verification with accountability - where it was sealed, when it was sealed and who sealed it.

The only seal in existence that locks!

No padlocks
Lockable Seal IQ

Lockable SEAL IQ is the ultimate Sealing device. When drivers have to leave vehicles unattended, they can do so safe in the knowledge that this seal can't be opened or broken.

The identity of the person who unseals a Lockable SEAL IQ unit is always known, because the seal can't be opened without a transponder, which identities the person.

With Lockable SEAL IQ, you completely eliminate the need for back-up locking devices - typically padlocks.

The ultimate freight security - combination seal and invisible high security lock!
Freightlock IQ activation

Freightlock IQ combines the advantages of SEAL IQ with Maple's robust, internally fitted, high security Freightlock.

Freightlock is a slamlock and a unique high security, air-operated locking system with one moving part (it's one moving part makes jet engines so reliable), that is invisible to intruders and activated by a small transponder - usually strapped to the driver's wrist.

Both SEAL IQ and Freightlock IQ have Maple's RFID audit trail technology for real-time monitoring of all events - who?, when? and (if GPS is used) where? All data is recorded for reference on a need to know basis.

Trailers can be fitted with an air cylinder to ensure that Freightlock can be activated any time, anywhere. The quantity of air required to activate the lock is minimal.

There are two basic models of Freightlock: one for shutter doors and one for barndoors

Benefits: Improved DOT Ratio and KPI
Key efficiency improvements

Mechanical seal

The data stored during day to day business activity is generally accessed on a need to know basis - such as when a seal has returned with a red light.

The real time data also provides managers with the information needed to remedy inefficiencies in their operations.

This data, coupled with faster Gatehouse Procedures, provides the means to improve DOT ratio and KPIs.

Additional Benefits: Hired Trailers / Temp Drivers Issue
Hired trailers - and temp drivers - can be linked to the system

Mechanical seal

Trailers or rigids hired even for short periods - and any agency drivers taken on - can be quickly assimilated into the Maple IQ system.

Keeping load integrity and making temp drivers fully accountable is achieved by mounting a reserve SEAL IQ unit using the purpose designed, lightweight bracket that's easily fitted using a single screw as shown above.

Included with reserve SEAL IQ is a supply of windscreen stickers communicating to drivers that - “this vehicle is continuously monitored by onboard Maple IQ Security”.

The bracket for temporary mounting of SEAL IQ unit.
Load integrity on hired vehicles and temp drivers fully accountable from day one!
Additional Benefits: Remote Control without Airtime Costs
Operates with GPS independent of Cellular Airtime
Mechanical seal

Maple IQ does not require cellular airtime to operate in a GPS context. IQ's read/write capability can interact with GPS receivers. And, unlike cellular airtime, which can have very weak, or no-signal areas, GPS is available anywhere in the world.

And remote locking and unlocking becomes possible.

So there's a powerful argument for linking Maple RFID technology with GPS applications - all the benefits without expensive airtime bills!
